The Athlete's Table's 3 Kona Hawaii Inspired Smoothie Recipes

We love making new smoothie recipes.  But quite possibly the only thing we like more than making new smoothie recipes ourselves is when our friends make their own new smoothie recipes with our Primo Smoothie.  For some reason, food just tastes better when someone else prepares it for you (if you know the science behind this, please do share!).

Chef Aaron Vinten from the Athlete's Table has done it again.  You already knew he was a fan of Field Work and our Primo smoothie, but this time he has taken the liberty to up his smoothie game with some inspiration from triathlon's marque event, the Ironman World Championships in beautiful Kona, Hawaii.  Kona is the land of plenty when it comes to sourcing ingredients for fresh, nutrient packed recovery smoothies, and these three recipes are a great example of the flavor and nutrition the island provides.  Fresh tropical fruits abound...not to mention the coffee.  Blend these with other favorite island flavors like fresh coconut, and you are well on your way to gastronomic teleportation to a tropical paradise, with the feel-good nutrition you need to check all the boxes.

Recipe 1: The Super Nana

Why we love it: A perfect mix of island flavors and creaminess coming from one of our favorite fat sources: coconut.

1 Frozen Banana, 1/2 Cup Mango, 1/2 Cup Pineapple, 1/4 Cup Coconut Milk, 1 Tbls Flaxseed, 1-2 Cups Almond Milk, 1 Scoop Primo Smoothie 

Topping: Mashed frozen Strawberry

Recipe 2: Mocha Lava Java

Why we love it: Post workout caffeine with carbohydrate has actually been shown to help increase recovery.  Not to mention get you through your day.  Plus...Kona coffee (enough said).

2 cups ice, 1 Cup Kona Cold Brew Coffee, 1/2 Frozen Banana;1 Cup Almond Milk,1/4 Cup Roasted Macadamia Nuts (or 2 Tbls Favorite Nut Butter), 1 Tbls Maca Powder, 1 Tbls Cacao Nibs, 1/4 Cup Coconut Milk,  1 Scoop Chocolate; Protein Powder (our chocolate flavor coming soon!)

TOPPING: Whipped Coconut Cream, Toasted Coconut

Recipe 3: The Madame Pele

Why we love it: Packed with spinach and spirulina.  Both are power greens with some pretty compelling (science backed) benefits for your fitness and health.  

THE MADAM PELE SMOOTHIE: 1 Cup Baby Spinach/Kale (packed), 1 Cup Mango, 1 Cup Pineapple, 1 tsp Hawaiian Spirulina, 1 Fresh Mint Leaf (Optional), 2 Tbls Unsweetened Coconut, 1 Madjool date, 1 Scoop Primo Smoothie
