It's always a good time to check in with professional triathlete Angela Naeth, so we figured we'd reach out and see what she's been up to the past few months. After dealing with some injuries in 2017, she is coming back stronger than ever, and bringing an army of women triathletes with her in the team and community she is building, "IRaceLikeAGirl."
Read below to see what this 2015 Ironman North America Champ is up to, how 2018 is shaping up so far, and what this whole "racing like a girl" thing is all about (and how you can get involved!).
How is the early season training shaping up?
Great! It's been a little different for me this year - living and training in the Boston Area. I wouldn't have it any other way though, the mix in training is a great change of mindset. I use to chase the sun and warm weather year-round. Indoor riding and now, off to Florida for a month makes it that much more exciting for training outside!
How is your body holding up after spending a lot of the year last year rehabbing and getting strong again?
Stronger than ever. Sometimes these mishaps are benefits in disguise. You roll with the punches and do what you're able.
With an "unconventional" season last year due to surgery, and ramping up a bit more at the end of the year, do you have more early season targets than you might otherwise? What's the first event on the calendar?
I head to Florida here for a training camp and will kick off the season with a couple halfs (Ironman 70.3). It's similar to what I would do any year really. The goal is solid year in the books so no rushing things on my end.
Can you talk a bit about IRaceLikeAGirl? How many years has the team been in existence? Why did you create the team and how is it coming along this for 2018?
Yes! iracelikeagirl has been fantastic and growing every month. The team started in 2017 and we've grown almost double in size in one year. My goal for the team was to create a inclusive community of women in endurance sports and support members with sponsorship support, and personal support in their triathlon endeavors. We now are a global community - with team challenges, events and social opportunities. We race, train and support each other everywhere. www.iracelikeagirl.com
What are your ultimate goals for the team?
World domination. ;) ... And of course, provide opportunities and a community to encourage women of all ages in sport globally with team events, challenges, and a social platform for connection.
What has been the reception from the ladies who have joined up so far?
I can't speak for them but I believe it's been amazing. Everyone is so supportive and encouraging and participates in all our team events and challenges. We are all connected via texting apps, online, our private groups on all social media platforms. It's really been inspiring to be a member myself.
What about the 5k? How can people get involved if they would like to participate or support?
Yes! We have an inaugural 5k (being put on by Field Work Swarm Collective member Evie)! Both virtual and in-real time on March 10, 2018. We have a ton of supporters providing awesome giveaways and door prizes. And we have some great medals for top age-groups! All the details can be found here:
What are your personal race goals for 2018?
Keep progressing forward and contend at the top races in 2018... and above all, enjoy the process!
Thanks Angela...can't wait to see some of those race results pouring in in 2018!
