Blood Orange, Pomegranate, and Cacao Smoothie

This has been one of our go to smoothie recipes this winter, something we're calling the California Smile aka the 68 and sunny.  Thanks for your concern, we all survived the 5 consecutive days of stormy weather and temps in the low back to our regularly scheduled programming.

During the winter, eating fresh fruit and veggies can take a back seat to eating, well, whatever you want.  Throwing your fresh ingredients in your daily breakfast smoothie is a great way to stay on track.  Pomegranates, which you already know we are fans of, and citrus, in this case blood oranges are both winter fruit and go great in any Primo Smoothie, especially our new cacao flavor.  Dates are actually locally grown out in the deserts (Palm Springs pool party, anyone) of Southern California, and one of our favorite ways to naturally sweeten any smoothie.

When citrus is in season during the winter months, we try to buy and eat as much as we can, usually and orange or two a day.  There are so many awesome types of oranges beyond just your normal navels, mixing it up and keeping it fresh is a great way to get bright nutrition in your diet daily.  As you know, oranges are a great source of vitamin C, amongst other vitamins, which is an antioxidant and also helps support the immune system.  Something we all need during the colder winter months.  Oranges also have a particularly high satiety, too, helping to keep you full longer than many other foods.  We prefer tossing an orange or two in our smoothie versus using orange juice, this way you ensure you get all the good fiber, too.

Give this recipe a shot! 
-10 oz unsweetened vanilla almond milk
-1 bloodorange
-2-3 dates (optional)
-seeds from 1/4 pomegranate
-2 scoops cacao Primo Smoothie...blend and enjoy!
